Phase 1 > Adventure Begins > Starting Inline skate
Come with me to my awesome adventure which is at the moment going on virtually in my head similar to many SOLO learners out there. In India, skating isn't popular but it exists in some places. From where I am, skating was a dream.
What really made me felt in love with roller skating, was the ease with which you could travel. But little did I know, Oh boy!, I first got my pair of roller skates, yeah the old tenacity ones, I was shocked.
After taking two rounds secretly when my parents went out, I told "Nah!! these aren't meant to be for me".
The twist came in 2018, when i called my parents and said I am gonna learn swimming as a co-curriculum activity in my 3rd year's summer vacation. Deep in my heart I was not happy. Then a thought struck to me that not every place i can swim and with a joy in my voice i called my parents telling them, "Mom dad I have changed my decision! I am going to learn roller skating (common for inline too)". As a concern for my well being, mom asked me, "why so dangerous sport ?".
Me acting tough and all replied with a smile, " I just want to do it and I know I want to". Dad agreed saying ,"So what is the plan?". The question triggered me and i ran asking internet all crazy things about roller skating and that was when I discovered >> INLINE SKATING<<.
So, I went to see which one i should buy and not surprisingly enough many of skates shown were from amazon. I selected Slyk Triskate 100 mm one as i had no idea on what to look for in an inline skate.
Then one day while surfing youtube I stumbled upon a channel Mumbai skating classes ran by Mr. Thomas. He is very kind hearted and helping person. I texted him on WhatsApp and asked him should I buy the above mentioned skates. He immediately texted back saying, "No Please Don't". He further explained why these skates were not good enough and asked me my budget. I had no idea about it so my answer was around Rs. 5000 to 6000. Mr. Thomas replied good quality of skates will come starting from Rs. 15k.
I requested him to please suggest and good Inline skates for my budget. Then Mr. Thomas gave me a link to these >> DECATHLON OXELO MF500 HARDBOOT << and said that this is the one you should buy.
As a typical human, I started comparing these with all available skates of same or similar price tag and found out Mr. Thomas WAS RIGHT. At this price range these were the best. But sadly I could only one review of this Oxelo MF500 hardboot on youtube which was in spanish by a professional skater. This didn't stop me.
Using google translator, i tried my best to understand what the expert was saying and was able to understand 60% of it. So i requested many youtubers and Decathlon itself to review them.
True I am waiting for these reviews but my mind is made up and I will learn skating on the skates suggested by Mr. Thomas. The Major difference I found between MF500 and others from amazon were:
1. Hardboot provides better support and Protection.
2. Softboot are also good but amazon ones had stitching problems.
3. The 45 degree straps provided were better.
4. The frame was 243mm but it seemed more rigid (this part needs to be reviewed)
5. Not boosting about ABEC 7 speed but i found Oxelo bearing were better.
The only CON I found was The Hardness of wheels. You see many experts suggests the wheels for Indian roads should be greater than 84A on the durometer scale. But Oxelo is providing us 80 mm wheels with 82A.
Hey wait a minute What does it means ??
It means your wheels will have more grip but will wear down quickly too. I saw professionals who worked with 86A or above found it difficult to perform stunts with 82A. The good news is you can change and put wheels of any hardness as per your liking.
So with all my heart I thank you for being a part on my adventure phase 1 of Solo learning Inline skates.
Stay tuned for phase 2.
